“My French grandmother was tall and slim and elegant. Every other Sunday, she arrived to our house in Stamford, Connecticut, in my grandfather’s freshly washed and impossibly shiny black Buick. My grandfather always drove because my grandmother never learned to drive. Even so, she never seemed to be without someone to chauffeur her around town.” – French Women Never Sleep Alone by Jamie Cat Callan
If you live in the modern world, you most likely have a car to drive around. To get to places quickly is possible if you can drive. However, let’s explore the topic of driving a car in terms of femininity.
I used to not know how to drive and was perfectly fine. Back then I used public transportation and walked a lot, a lot. And I would think of a car as some sort of luxury. Or maybe even unnecessary thing really, if you live in a big city with constant traffic jam. As I moved to another smaller town, and another country, I realized I needed to know how to drive and have a car. Otherwise, it will take me forever to get to places. At the beginning of my learning though I was very uncomfortable and even scared. The thought of “anything can happen at any given moment” was terrifying for me. And I thought that car should be used only if it is absolutely necessary, and someone else should be driving. Not me.
As I went deeper into the subject of femininity, I realized that the act of driving has a very masculine energy. Let’s look closer. There is really no such thing as “masculine” or “feminine” energy. There is ENERGY. Genderless. It acquires feminine or masculine polarity depending on who uses this energy. And where this energy is being applied. If we remember Yin and Yang monad, where dark side is feminine and white side is masculine, we can further think: masculine is everything dynamic, expansive, active, bright, goal-oriented. It is a movement forward. Whereas feminine is passive, contractive, dark, still and internally directed. Everywhere, where it requires to apply the energy of movement, of changes, of modification is where you use masculine part of the energy.
Ways to remain Woman behind the wheel
Now, when us, ladies, sit in the car, what do we do? We use our brain to do many things at the same time: to operate a whole entire vehicle, to determine better route, to stay actively alert making sure our path is clear and safe, to look for a potential danger. We are taking the responsibility for other people’s life. Does it look like all those things have a feminine polarity? Not really. So by driving a car, we have to become a little more masculine, and use our male energy to function. It is inevitable, otherwise we either cannot drive a car, or can drive it by causing accidents.
What is the resolution here? Well, there are a few things we can do to perform a masculine act like in womanly way. If you think of any others, please do share.
- Come up with some sort of phrase that will act like affirmation for you. And every time you say it, it will only get stronger. “Every time I am driving, I become more feminine”. “Every time I go in the car, I stay a woman and my softness and delicacy remain the same/grow/enhance”. You got the idea.
- Use the car for ladylike errands. Drive to your massage appointment, pedicure/manicure/haircut. Drive to the mall to get a new dress, or new shoes, or new lipstick. Use it MOSTLY for these things, if you have time and opportunity. And that leads us to the next point.
- Let others drive. Delegate it to your husband, partner, brother, father, friend. If they want to drive – LET THEM. Delegation of responsibilities is an extremely feminine and extremely rewarding thing to do. I know, it can be very hard. But once you let go, things will fall into place 😉 Besides, being driven by someone else makes you feel more of a woman, a lady, a queen.
- Decorate your car, if you are the owner. Make it as pretty as possible. Good smelling, good looking, good sounding. Pick a car with pretty color. Put a little “Shoe” sign on the window to let others know that a lady (not just a woman) is driving. Be a lady on the road in the world of masculine machines.
Little Secrets
A few other things I wanted to mention. Once you start going towards the feminine polarity of energies, things will start changing. Sometimes, it can cause frustration, as you become less controlling, more relaxed, but also a little more absentminded or erratic maybe. This is normal since you are now flowing on this wave of femininity. It is not making you weaker or less valuable, but on the opposite – it allows you to be so flexible that you can adjust to any life circumstance eventually. When you do things depending on your mood, “if you are in the mood” – that is more feminine than doing something as planned. It is okay to have both of that, as long as we do not get frustrated and confused. Just be aware which polarity you are in right now, and act accordingly. And let yourself be accordingly too, don’t demand anything from yourself.
As an experiment, try to drive a car with your pants on, and then put a skirt and nice shoes. Even heels, if you dare. Try to feel your body sensations, try to notice what decision you make when you are on the road in a dress. It is really fun 😉
Lastly, if you “accidentally” forget the car keys, it is maybe a little hint from the Universe that it is time for you to avoid driving yourself 😉 Let your man chauffeur you around, it will make him feel more of a knight, and you – more of a queen.

Do you have any tips of how to look more feminine while driving? Such as posture? I’m a man but I don’t want people to think I’m a man while they drive by me.
Hello! I’m sorry I am not sure I can help you as I work only with women.
