In the modern Western world femininity is a mysterious animal. No one really knows what it is, and when they try to describe it, often times it sounds something mythical that doesn’t exist anymore, or something very old fashioned, something no one really needs or understands. It is seen as a defect and an unnecessary quality that makes us weak and dependable.
Well, here is my humble point of view on this subject. Being European, I was raised in a somewhat of a traditional culture. Having gender roles is very natural to me and to my whole being this is really the only way of being. As I started learning more about the nature of a woman and femininity as one of it’s qualities, I realized why this way of being was not only natural to me, but natural in general. In the Universe.
If we look at nature, we will see that there are always opposites, two sides of everything. And even though they are opposites, they complete each other in a most perfect way. And it seems to be working perfectly fine for so many years now.
If we look at people, as part of nature, we have the same idea. The idea of polarities, that are so very different, but together they create this beautiful powerful union that can give birth to so many things: from children to businesses, to creative projects and so on and so forth. And even though people try to creatively come up with other ways of living, it is truly the most basic, simple, and most energy efficient way to be and live. Men and women are different, and that is the whole beauty.
Femininity is authenticity for woman
For a woman, it is a natural thing to express qualities that are of feminine nature, simply because she is a woman. She may be able to do all other great things and be faster or better or smarter, than men, but what for? Why to copy someone else when you can beautifully express what you already have as a gift of Nature and be authentically a woman? And by this, completing yourself and the one we are with, our partner?
Being feminine is never anything negative. It is never being weak, it is never old fashioned. And it is something that should be nurtured and applied wisely in the right time and in the right place. It is something that can open our potential of being a woman even more. Being a woman is not simply being born if female body, it is a true art that we can skillfully develop with feminine qualities. And under these qualities, there is a hidden power, hidden treasures that we often do not notice.
What are feminine qualities?
There are several qualities that femininity contains, that in the end make a woman – a Woman. And remember, those are the qualities that are naturally a woman’s nature, by default.
Humbleness: to admit that not all the things happen how and when we want them to happen.
Wisdom: ability to remember that we are all just the drops in the universal ocean. In other words, it is always a greater order of things, of which we might not always know but should always remember. It is also a wisdom to take care of ourselves, our bodies and minds, and not blaming others in our failures. However, when we count only on ourselves and keep saying we cannot trust anyone else, we are showing pride, refusing the fact that woman has a divine protection at all times, no matter the circumstances.
Openness: to whatever comes. And ability to accept it and move forward.
Flexibility: to changes that are constantly happening.
Ability to wait: for there is always a right time and the right place for all things.
Acceptance: of help from someone else, acceptance of our weaknesses, and acceptance of our own desire to be happy.
Beauty: seeing it in ourselves and in the outside world. When a woman feels like a woman, a man feels like a man. And when a woman feels miserable with another woman’s beauty beside her, this other woman’s beauty is coming from pride, not purity and divine nature. When we are naturally beautiful, we feel and look beautiful. We feel feminine, other women feel feminine, and men feel masculine. Naturally, without any effort.
Surrender: to our feminine nature, the nature of dependency and defenselessness. This is the nature of woman, and it is up to us to accept it or fight it. Surrender to the fact that we all have limits and we are not all mighty, that everything is temporary. If we fight and try to change the order of things – that is childish and selfish, that means we do not realize that there might be a bigger picture that we simply don’t see. Fighting for something is the past. In the present, we can live at peace and learn to live in harmony with the existence.
Softness: to stay in a receiving mode no matter what happens. Like the water that takes in its body whatever goes there.
Trust: that whatever happens has a reason. And when nothing happens – there is also a reason. And the reason might show up later, not immediately. So we may need to wait sometimes.
Patience: to be able to wait for a reason that comes later J or to just wait, in general.
Knowledge: to remember nothing belongs to us, including our children. To remember that “A rose by any other name would smell as sweet”. As well as – a rose will never become a lily. That is the knowledge of who we really are, and the knowledge to act upon it.
Strength: to being a woman. To be able to surrender, to stay flexible, to stay open, to stay beautiful, to stay patient and wise. All of this requires a lot of inner, true feminine power. The power in its hidden delicate subtle way. Like the power of the night that brings darkness and seems passive and uneventful, but in the end it also brings true peace and rest. Something that day will never be able to fully provide 😉
