There are probably dozens of articles about that, and yet some women can still find it difficult to follow the lifestyle where they need to make an effort to look beautiful and chic. While this can be understandable, at the same time, I am a strong believer that a woman supposed to be beautiful all the time because this is simply her Nature. So a little effort cannot be bad, and well needed.
Beauty can be a relative term, so I would like to stress out that this time I am talking about physical appearance only, not your deep bottomless cosmic inner world (which indeed is beautiful too, naturally). And since I am European, most of the tips and tricks will be coming from the European point of view.
So what can we do to stay chic, feminine and elegant everyday with minimum amount of effort and money?
Simplicity is the key
It is pretty much always the key but especially in the area of beauty. The simpler the better, from colors and fabrics, to hairdos and perfumes. Less amount, or moderate amount will always be better than large amount of anything. Let’s get into specifics.
Colors: plains vs prints
Go for simple colors, like white, black, navy, khaki, beige. Try to have two, or three colors maximum in your look. Most neutral colors always look much better and classier than bright colors of other shades. The look will be simple, elegant and timeless all the time. Also, if you have to choose prints vs plane color, choose the latter. Prints are tricky and most of the time they look cheap and untidy.
Fabrics: quality vs quantity
Even though it may seem like a lot of money, it is always better to buy a piece of better quality fabric than go for cheaper version. Simply because good quality fabrics last longer, as oppose to cheap ones, when you have to buy that piece again and again, spending more money eventually. Good quality fabrics are usually also simple (not surprisingly): cotton, linen, silk, wool, leather. Cheaper fabrics like polyester or acryl can also give you skin reactions and are generally not skin friendly.
Perfume: memorable vs noticeable
The lighter, the better. This rule never fails. It is always good to have a scent that everyone will remember as something subtle but unique, than as something bright and annoying. Everyone has different tastes, and not everyone will appreciate heave “loud” scent that lasts long after the person is gone. You may also switch scents and go lighter for spring/summer and heavier for fall/winter.
Hair: messy vs natural
With hair it can be very individual (just like with perfumes), however the general rule of thumb is again simplicity. As long as you have healthy hair, that is when you take care of them properly, they will naturally be beautiful and you don’t have to do much with them. The simple, elegant haircut and hairdo (or absence of the hairdo even) will always look better than something very complex and maybe a little “too much”. As well as when absolute absence of any hairstyle. I know, it can be confusing. Generally, simple classy hair look cleaner and more chic than the total absence of anything or too much of anything.
Makeup: effortless vs thorough
The same rule of simplicity also applies perfectly here. Unless you have major skin issues, you should always go for more simple look as oppose to spending hours on your face. It can be fun, and that is okay. However, if we want to be chic and classy, heavy makeup will never help us with that. Try to accentuate just your eyes, or just your lips. Go very light with foundation, don’t create a facial expression you don’t naturally have. The main idea here is to brighten up what you already have other than create something completely different and not-you.
Accessorizes: popular vs priceless
They will always pull up the whole look immediately, if chosen well. That means if they are made well and most of the time simple. You should not be scared to invest in good shoes, purses and sunglasses, or watches if you wear them. Those pieces of wardrobe will make you look like someone with a lot of money without really having a lot of money. It works like magic all the time, and it is just the way it is. They don’t have to be of popular brands as well because sometimes it is not a guarantee of good quality. In fact, it is better to avoid popular brans or showing off the label, never a good taste. However do spend most of your money for these little pieces of instant chic.
Nails: polished vs clean
Ironically, nails do no have to look completely done or polished. It is again will be a sign of “too much effort”, and chic or class does not imply that. Simple, clean, trimmed nails with neutral or classic colors are always the winner. Go for bright red, pink or nude shades. No additional patterns or glitter are needed. Shorter nails are always better than longer ones.
So in the end, it is really not that difficult to look chic. With the main simplicity factor, it is very much affordable and possible for just about every woman, should she be interested in looking classy and chic. If you have any additional tips, please do share and let’s start the girl talk 😉
Love you all!
